Our solution
Arcelor Mittal Moerdijk presented BKRS with an impressive challenge: the delivery and assembly of a gantry crane. This crane drives over a crane track with a crane track length of no less than 250 meters. For the transhipment of heavy steel pipes, Arcelor Mittal opted for a solution in which a double-girder overhead crane riding on a gantry crane could be used optimally. This innovative setup not only provided the necessary flexibility, but also increased efficiency and productivity on the shop floor.
The gantry crane, with an impressive span of 45 meters. The crane is equipped with a double girder overhead crane that moves over the entire 45 meters. This overhead crane is equipped with two double rail cats, each with an operating load of 16 tons. This enables Arcelor Mittal to lift and move heavy steel pipes accurately and safely. The double-rail cats have a mutual hook distance ranging from 3 to 18 meters and a maximum hook distance of 12 meters.
Specifications:
- Operating load: 2 x 16 t
- Hook spacing: 3-18 m
- Overspanning: 45 m
- Hook route: 12 m
- Crane track length: 250 m
Advantages of a double girder overhead crane driving on gantry crane
The combination of a double girder overhead crane riding on a gantry crane offers numerous advantages. This setup maximizes the utilization of available space and provides the flexibility to move heavy loads with precision over long distances. The two cats make it possible to grip the loads at different points, which is especially crucial when handling long objects, such as steel pipes.
BKRS carried out the project from start to finish, from the engineering and delivery to the assembly of the gantry crane and the overhead crane. This tailor-made solution contributes to the efficiency of the production process at Arcelor Mittal Moerdijk and underlines BKRS’ expertise in supplying high-quality crane systems for industrial applications.
