Mobilis came to BKRS Crane Systems with the desire to purchase a sustainable, electric gantry crane for a project in the city center of Amsterdam. Given the limited space around the construction site, the gantry crane had to be equipped with a concrete pump. In order not to damage the old trees around the construction pit, the crane was allowed to stand a maximum of five meters above the sheet piling. As a result, the lifting height was also limited. Since the crane is used in the city center of Amsterdam, minimal noise nuisance for the surrounding area was also desired. BKRS designed a custom gantry crane, equipped with all the customer’s project wishes.
Martin Belder, Chief Foreman at Mobilis: “At BKRS you are immediately at the table with all the knowledge, a brief consideration can be made immediately whether something is possible or not. That’s the strength and then you can switch fairly quickly with the construction team.”
The project
In November 2021, a portal crane from BKRS Crane Systems was put into use for the construction of the Singelgracht garage-Marnix. Due to the limited space, the client was looking for a gantry crane that could be used to facilitate the construction site. The building materials are delivered by boats or at one fixed location at the construction site. The materials must then be transported to the right place by crane in the construction pit. Characteristic of this project was the desire to mount a concrete pump on the gantry crane. At the start of the project, the crane will be used to transport building materials such as mats and construction steel. Later, the overhead crane was equipped with a concrete pump, so that the concrete can easily be poured in the right place.
The gantry crane will be used by Mobilis for a period of one to one and a half years. One of the customer’s wishes was therefore: a crane in the colours of Mobilis. In addition, this green-purple crane had to be electrically powered, with a view to sustainability and reducing noise pollution for the environment.
