Grand Paris Express is the client of the expansion of the metro network in and around Paris. The temporary association Avenir, which makes line 17 lot 1 for Grand Paris Express, needed a 45-tonne gantry crane to supply a tunnel boring machine at a depth of 35 metres for a project in Paris. The tunnel will be a 6-kilometre-long section. This project is for a metro network and should be ready for the Summer Olympics in 2024.
Goals

Our solution
Wayss & Freytag, part of Royal BAM Group, is carrying out part of the assignment. Years ago, they already had good experience with BKRS for a project in The Hague. For this reason, they contacted BKRS again for this assignment in Paris.
The collaboration with Wayss & Freytag is constructive. BKRS saw an opportunity to improve the design of the crane in the original plan. That is why Wayss & Freytag was happy to make use of BKRS’ extensive knowledge.
The gantry crane was delivered by BKRS in February 2020. This gantry crane with an operating load of 45 tonnes has a length of 33 metres and can easily supply the tunnel boring machine at a depth of 35 metres. In this way, the crane contributes to the expansion of the existing metro network in and around Paris.
